ALUG Feedback
Note: This is a good place to brainstorm and record ideas. However, for more immediate action - such as if you're reporting a service being down - you should post to the main ALUG mailing list.
Contents
Website (non-wiki engine related)
Note: This section is for website suggestions which would not require modifications to the MoinMoin engine or the replacing of MoinMoin completely. For example, suggestions related to the design of the MoinMoin theme would fit here, as would a request for installation of a MoinMoin extension. Any other website-related feedback should go here as well, such as a request of a standalone page running java applet X, for example.
media4moin Macro - Can we have the media4moin MediaWiki parser plugin installed? This would make it easier for people who are more familiar with MediaWiki to adjust to working with MoinMoin.
STATUS: TO BE CONSIDERED
MiniPage Macro - MoinMoin does not allow wiki-code inside a wiki table. Can we have the MiniPage macro installed? It adds some wiki functionality (though it's not complete).
STATUS: DONE - noodles, 10:34 Feb 22 2007
Ugly Theme - the default MoinMoin theme is not particularly attractive and over-complicated for visitors new to a wiki. Can we simplify it and apply either a custom theme or one off the shelf? See the Alug Wiki Theme thread on the main mailing list for further discussion. A great example of a visitor-friendly MoinMoin-based site which looks good, is the Open and Free Technology Community who also host the ALUG IRC channel.
STATUS: TO BE CONSIDERED
Polling - it would be useful to have some form of polling functionality to quickly gauge reactions of ALUG members. This could perhaps be created as an extension to MoinMoin or perhaps a separate component of the website, such as a forum. The idea here is that any member could create a poll either on a wiki page or forum post, not just website administrators.
STATUS: TO BE CONSIDERED
Join IRC channel through website - Could we setup a page which could be used to allow people to join the ALUG IRC channel without requiring a client to be installed and configured? This would encourage new users who have never used IRC before, and also be convenient for those who aren't near a PC of their own (e.g. internet cafe). CGI IRC looks like a nice candidate - much more responsive than a java client.
STATUS: TO BE CONSIDERED
Website (wiki engine related)
Note: This section is for website suggestions which would require modifications to the MoinMoin engine or the replacing of MoinMoin completely. For example, requests for a Mediawiki-style Discussion page to accompany each page in the wiki would go here. These feature requests are less-likely to be actioned, unless they are also reported to the MoinMoin community.
Allow Line Breaks In Wiki Table Code - MoinMoin does not allow line breaks in a table row, which makes the raw text of a page pretty hard to read/maintain.
Add Discussion Pages - MoinMoin seems to lack a Mediawiki-style Discussion page, to allow members to discuss content on each individual page of the wiki.

#ALUG IRC channel
Note: The #ALUG IRC channel is hosted on an IRC server maintained by the OFTC, so server feedback is unlikely to be actioned by ALUG. However, non-server related requests, such as the the creation of bots etc. might garner interest from other ALUG members.
